About

I am a Research Scientist conducting cognitive neuroscience and psychophysiological research at the Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

My general interests concern the aberrant brain activity underlying psychopathology and that resulting from brain injury. I have examined brain activity in schizophrenia, problem gambling, substance use disorders, externalizing disorders, and traumatic brain injury. My work uses advanced neuroimaging processes (e.g. EEG, MEG, fMRI) and novel treatment methods including neuromodulation (e.g. transcranial electrical/ magnetic stimulation; tDCS, TMS). Currently, my research is focused on 1) suicide prevention using neuromodulation and cognitive training to improve executive function and reduce impulsivity, 2) developing research related to the clinical needs and long-term implications of brain injury, including disorders of consciousness, and 3) slowing the cognitive decline seen in normal aging, neurodegenerative disorders, and dementia.
